Telecare
There are numerous definitions of telecare but the key focus can be described as:
"The continuous, automatic and remote monitoring of real-time emergencies and lifestyle changes over time in order to manage the risks associated with independent living."
Despite variations in the way it is described, generally we can state that telecare is an enhanced version of assistive technology, as the device (such as a smoke alarm) is connected to a call centre, offering support, minimising risks and maximising independence for individuals. Telecare is not intended to replace human contact but to help individuals living alone, as well as their carers.
Over the coming months we will be creating a telecare e-learning module which will support the adoption of telecare. If you are involved in or thinking about telecare, then please don’t hesitate to get in touch!
