Telehealth trial shows early success
The Whole System Demonstrator (WSD) programme is the largest randomised
control trial of telehealth and telecare anywhere in the world. It was
set up in 2008 to look at the clinical and cost effectiveness of
telehealth and telecare across three sites (Kent,Cornwall and Newham)
involving 6191 participants, and 238 GP practices.

Personal budgets announced for 2014
Health Secretary Andrew Lansley has announced that personal budgets
will be offered to patients receiving continuing healthcare by April
2014. The scheme will allow 50,000 patients to choose and direct their
care by buying treatments from a private insurer.
